Due to the nature of the experimental process we are proposing, there are some ethical issues we need to consider , those being:
The possibility of needing to rearrange the DNA structure of the zebrafish brings us certain problems such as: social problems, since society in general is not very informed about the technics used on genetic biotechnology, so they might be reluctant towards it;
Extrinsic problems since we don’t know what possible repercussions might occur from genetic engineering;
If the experiment end up being conclusive and successful, the next logical step is to use the new knowledge and test it in mammals such as mice , which brings the problem of not knowing how it will affect the test subjects;
Using in vivo specimens has its pros and cons. For as it allows us to see how any variable we can imagine affects the quotidian of the chosen specimens or puts an end to its life. It also brings with it the responsibility of breading and artificially sustaining the life of the animals, without trespassing the established ethical boundaries.
